Groninger Museum

Indoor activity

The Groninger Museum regularly hosts high-profile exhibitions in addition to its permanent collection. The museum is located on an artificial island in the Verbindingskanaal. The museum comprises three seperate sections connected by a series of corridors. The first section contains the Michele de Lucchi and Philippe Starck pavilions, containing exhibitions of the Groningen Art society De Ploeg, Northern Expressionism and Oriental Ceramics. The central section contains the main building with golden repository tower designed by Alessandro Mendini. The third section was designed by Alessandro Mendini and Coop Himmelb(l)au. This section is where the temporary art exhibitions are held, and also contains the museum's permanent collection.
The museum is built in post-modern style.
