Dutch Tax & Customs Museum

Indoor activity

The Tax and Customs Museum takes you back through 20 centuries of Dutch tax history.

Compare the current situation with that of times past when tax collectors wore wigs and rode around on bicycles.

The Tax and Customs Museum was created from the collection of professor Van der Poel (1888-1982) who began collecting well before the outbreak of World War II. Unfortunatly his entire collection was destroyed during the German invasion in May 1940.

After the war Van de Poel was able, with assistance from many others, to lay the foundations for what was to become a unique collection of memarobilia which illustrates the fiscal history of the Netherlands.
