Leerdam Bible Museum

Indoor activity

The Bible Museum in Leerdam has won the DagjeWeg.NL Award 2010.

Hundreds of centuries-old Bibles with etchings, engravings, lithographs, woodcuts and maps have found a safe haven in the Bible Museum. This collection of Dutch Bibles is owned by the cheerful enthusiast Wim van 't Zelfde, who has been collecting for many years. The collection is quite unique, with illustrations by famous illustrators who worked in the period 1530-1900.

Most of the Bibles in the museum are in the Statenvertaling - the Dutch equivalent of the King James Authorised Version or its forerunners. Particularly special examples include the Liesveldbijbel from 1538 which cost the printer his life
and a French Hugenot Bible from 1669. The Bible Museum also has a restoration workshop where valuable Bibles are lovingly restored.

Groups are welcome to make an appointment to visit outside the regular opening times!
